Almost 55,000 households have currently been impacted by the weather, with their possessions and shelters ruined.

Persistent storms over the recent period have compounded the precarious circumstances of the vast number of evacuated civilians in the territory, as stated by aid organizations.

"Awful" Night Poses Severe Risks

A representative characterized the weather overnight as "terrible", with downpours so severe that as much as 15cm (6in) of water gathered on the streets.

"The recent weather was truly difficult for the people. The heavy rains were so intense... And the winds were so forceful," stated the official.

There is significant concern that children sheltering in tents in wet attire will fall victim to hypothermia and other illnesses.

Deaths and Extensive Destruction

The health ministry have reported that one baby has succumbed from hypothermia and no fewer than 11 other people have been killed in structural failures caused by the severe weather.

Further statements indicate a greater number of casualties. Spokespeople reported that multiple homes had fully given way and scores had been partly destroyed.

  • Almost 55,000 families affected by rains.
  • More than 40 designated safe spaces severely flooded.
  • Countless residents required to find new shelter.

Assistance Operations Seen as Not Enough

Groups have stepped up distribution of shelter, warm covers and garments after the truce started, but they stress there is continues to be not enough aid getting in.

"We are working relentlessly to provide that relief and to allocate it, but the scale of the necessities is so immense that we continue to see thousands of people and minors who are truly suffering every night," warned one official.

Ongoing Concerns and Truce Terms

The second phase of the ceasefire involves proposals for the reconstruction of Gaza, along with political arrangements, the pullback of personnel, and other terms.

Aid bodies have stressed the need for "increased and sustained aid to meet immediate and long-term needs."

The hostilities was triggered by an offensive in the autumn of 2023. Subsequent campaigns have led to a high number of casualties in the area, according to health ministry data.
