It: Welcome to Derry Debuts Episode Two Ahead of Schedule on HBO Max

Audiences are thrilled for the Stephen King adaptation the Derry series, which is garnering praise and incorporating references from other Stephen King works. Following the premiere, HBO has revealed that episode two will arrive early, scheduled ideally for the spookiest night.

Early Release Information

Kicking off on October 31 at midnight PT, the next part of Welcome to Derry will premiere on the streaming service, before its traditional TV airing. The remaining installments of the show's first season will continue to air on Sunday nights on both HBO and its streaming arm, culminating in the season finale on the 14th of December.

Series Overview

Set in Stephen King’s It universe, It: Welcome to Derry is inspired by King’s iconic novel while expanding on the world brought to life by the It movie director in the two It films. The first It movie focused on kids and teens confronting supernatural evils, making it appropriate that the series follows in those footsteps. However, the debut of the streaming show demonstrates it aimed to increase the tension, delivering even more intense scares than the cinematic versions and establishing a harsh vibe for the rest of the season.

Premise and Ideas

Located in the early '60s, the series introduces a different group of adults and children living in a outwardly charming locale masking a sinister core. This place follows a vicious, repeating pattern—characterized by hostility, discrimination, and otherworldly forces, as a monstrous presence reappears once every three decades. Although Welcome to Derry might appear like it skews too close to the cinematic adaptations initially, what differentiates the streaming show is its dual perspective—told from the eyes of both children and adults at the same time. Children remain highly exposed to the monster's horror, but grown-ups don't escape confronting their own nightmares arising from Derry’s deep-seated bigotry and covert otherworldly powers.

Episode 2 debuts on the 31st of October at 12 a.m. Pacific Time.
