Reports indicate that original stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are returning to their iconic characters in the latest chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. Production is currently underway.
An Important Reunion for Fans
Lawrence and Hutcherson are returning as Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the roles they originated. It is believed their appearance will likely occur in a flash-forward sequence, as the main film series concluded with their characters married and with children.
This marks the sixth installment in the blockbuster Hunger Games franchise.
The Source Material
Sunrise on the Reaping is based upon a 2025 novel by author Suzanne Collins. It acts as the second prequel film after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. For this project is Francis Lawrence, who was behind nearly all the previous films in the series.

The film's narrative are set in the years leading up to the first Hunger Games, centering on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, who would later become Katniss's mentor, is shown as a tribute in the notorious 50th Hunger Games.
