Los Angeles Erupts in Celebration as Los Angeles Dodgers Claim Back-to-Back World Series Championship
Los Angeles experienced citywide celebrations after the Dodgers won a nail-biting seven-match World Series championship. Fans worldwide joined Angelenos in jubilation, marking the initial time in 25 years that a franchise has secured back-to-back championships.
Celebration Parade Draws Enormous Turnout
Local events included a downtown parade on Monday morning, a reserved-seating event at Dodger Stadium, and spontaneous parties throughout the city.
Social media videos show thousands of Angelenos packing downtown streets, many displaying handmade banners and Dodger flags. The team was seen traveling proudly on a double-decker bus through the masses, hoisting the Commissioner’s trophy high.
“I’m already thinking about the third time we’re going to do this,” the star player stated through an interpreter.
The parade route concluded at the stadium, where the players walked out to Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us,” with DJ Mustard providing music and the artist cruising a light blue vintage Cadillac around the stadium’s outfield.
Pre-Parade Festivities and Athlete Responses
Festivities began prior to the procession, with supporters lighting fireworks in the streets of Downtown Los Angeles on Sunday night.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto, awarded the World Series’ Most Valuable Player, spoke plainly about the win.
“Losing is not an option,” he stated. “I adore this team. This city means everything to me.”
Varied Responses and City Unity
In contrast, the team owner was met with a less warm welcome at the rally. Video footage from the event appear to show him taking the stage to a combination of applause and boos, with jeers interrupting his speech.
The championship served as a positive moment in what has been a challenging year for the city. An estimated quarter-million people attended to the championship parade last year, and according to team member Freddie Freeman, supporters this year demonstrated as much if not more support.
“It seems it’s almost double from last year,” Freeman said. “These fans are crazy. It’s truly amazing to be a part of this.”
