Pat Bamford Signs With Sheffield United After Leading Abusive Songs Targeting Coach Wilder
Patrick Bamford has joined Sheffield United only seven months following instigating insulting chants aimed at their manager, Chris Wilder.
The 32-year-old striker, without a club after departing from Leeds, has signed a deal with the Championship club in difficulty until January. Bamford's lengthy spell with Leeds finished by mutual consent in August.
Among Bamford’s last memorable actions as a Leeds player involved leading offensive songs regarding Wilder amid Leeds' promotion party in April. Currently, the former England player is set to play for Wilder as the Blades’ manager aims to rescue the team he loves out of the drop zone.
Past History Between the Striker and Wilder
The pair had previous conflict before Leeds moved up to the Premier League last season and United were defeated in the playoff final by Sunderland. Wilder described Bamford as a "muppet" when the roles were reversed in 2018-19 and the Blades secured automatic promotion whereas Leeds fell short in the promotion playoffs.
Making Amends & Moving Forward
Everything seems has been put behind them with United, the league's least productive attack, urgently requiring of a boost up front while Bamford hoping to resurrect his career.
The Wilder chant spread widely in April. An apologetic Patrick and the Leeds manager, Farke, phoned the Sheffield United manager the next day.
Wilder stated at the time: “Had a conversation with Patrick yesterday and I have no problem at all with that. I’m not sure about the language from a fellow professional! But I appreciated and admired him calling me.
“We had 20 minutes and the same again I talked with Daniel Farke too and we had a longer discussion with him and he's a great person, a top guy. When I was playing we would dish it out and accept it and that is part and parcel of football across all levels, even on a Sunday morning. I've got no problem at all. I am cool with the situation and I told him that to Pat.”
Latest Playing Struggles
Bamford made 18 appearances with Leeds United last season but the former Forest, Chelsea & Middlesbrough player has struggled with fitness issues over the past few seasons.
