Reigning Sabalenka Wins Consecutive WTA Top Player Honors.
The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been selected the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second straight season.
The twenty-seven-year-old captured four titles – the most on tour – including retaining the US Open this past September versus Amanda Anisimova to secure her fourth Grand Slam singles triumph.
A Year of Consistency
Throughout the year, Sabalenka competed in a circuit-leading nine championship matches, with losses coming against Madison Keys in the Australian Open final at the start of the year and Coco Gauff in June's French Open final.
The star player also triumphed at the Brisbane International early in the season, the Miami Open during the spring, and the Madrid Open as the clay season progressed. She spent the whole season as the world number one, ending 2025 on top of the rankings for a second straight year.
This past summer, she became the first athlete to exceed 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago.
Record-Breaking Statistics
Sabalenka finished the competitive year with a sixty-three to twelve win-loss record, and earned a record £11m in tournament winnings.
She garnered almost 80% of the votes cast by international tennis media.
Later this month, she is scheduled to face 2022 Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios in a high-profile mixed-gender exhibition match with the aim of "elevate women's tennis to a new level".
Other WTA Award Recipients
- Comeback Player of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, 28, received the award after taking 13-month break after the birth of her first child and making her comeback to the sport at the start of this year.
- Fresh Face of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko was honored with the award after beginning the season positioned beyond the world's top 300 and rising to world number 18.
- Doubles Team of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were selected after capturing their second career Grand Slam title as a pair.
- Most Improved Player of the Year: Amanda Anisimova was named after making five finals.
Last week, Carlos Alcaraz secured three awards in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, which included the season-ending top rank award, while Jannik Sinner was voted the fan favorite for a third consecutive time.
