Suspected Harasser Questioned: 'However Suppose I Might Be Madeleine?'
A woman charged with harassing Kate McCann allegedly left her a voicemail message which questioned: "suppose I am Madeleine?"
Julia Wandelt, twenty-four, who a jury heard has repeatedly claimed she was the vanished Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are standing trial accused with harassing Kate and Gerry McCann from June 2022 and February this year.
On Monday, the court heard call records and data retrieved from phones documented Ms Wandelt consistently demanding Madeleine's mother for a genetic test during 2023 and 2024.
Madeleine's vanishing in 2007 - when she was three years old during a family holiday in Portugal - is among the most widely reported child disappearance cases and is still unsolved.
'I Don't Want Money'
A separate recorded message, shared in court, documented Ms Wandelt saying: "I know I'm overweight and not pretty like Madeleine was, but I believe what I feel."
While a separate message of Ms Wandelt's monologues with Mrs McCann's voicemail stated: "Imagine there is a slight possibility that I'm her? What happens next? Wouldn't that be crucial for you?"
"I am not seeking money, I possess a living here in Poland, I simply desire to discover," the message continued.
The panel was advised that by means of emails, mobile messages and communications, Ms Wandelt asked for a biological test, sent youth pictures to her phone in a bid to demonstrate a resemblance to Mrs McCann's disappeared daughter, and asserted to have "flashbacks" from a childhood with the McCanns.
Robert Jones, an intelligence analyst with the police force who collated the evidence, told the court there "seemed to lack any responses" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt additionally contacted close associates of the McCanns, as per the call data.
On October 9th, 2024, Mr McCann responded to a communication from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, stating she had "incorrect contact information."
During that incident Ms Wandelt recorded a recording on Mrs McCann's voicemail stating "I will continue and I plan to establish my point."
The court heard Mrs Spragg established a relationship via internet with Ms Wandelt before assisting her on a appearance to the McCanns' home in the county in last December.
Phone records revealed Mrs Spragg had communicated using messaging service to Mrs McCann to state the news outlets had depicted Ms Wandelt as "a crazy person" but that she ought to be treated respectfully in the period leading up to the visit to the village, the county, in December 2024.
The court learned message exchanges between the two accused, in November 2024, considering trying to obtain Mrs McCann's biological evidence from her bins or from silverware at a dining venue.
"We need to assert ourselves," the co-defendant told Ms Wandelt.
On the occasion of the appearance to their home, the defendant transmitted a text which said: "We are sat outside the McCanns' home with our headlights off similar to investigators. I had hoped to accomplish this with another person I never thought I would be involved in this with the McCanns."
